Just as I was about to start preparing for finals, I realized I have not updated my blog in a long time! It's evident by all the comments I get that people have been dying to see what I'm up to, so here is a new post! ( and by all the comments, I mean 0).
Elaine, Liz, and I flew to Arizona on Saturday to watch/support the Breakaway crew at IMAZ. I had never seen a full Ironman race before, and since IMAZ is so spectator friendly, we decided to go to this one! We walked to the expo from our hotel, thinking it was 2 miles away. 6 miles later, Elaine was limping and Liz and I were straggling behind. It was worth it, because the expo on Saturday was really fun - especially the Ironman store. I am going to have to start saving now for St. George because they have really cool stuff in there! We luckily got to see everyone before they raced, which was a definite plus. On our way to the expo, we saw Josh, Kasia, and Jay getting one last ride in. They were confident and all ready to go. All of their hard work paid off because they all kicked ass on Sunday!
Sunday Liz and I met up with Felipe, Michelle, Sal, and Amy (Tom's wife). Elaine was lucky and got a media pass! Up until Sunday morning I had been wishing that I was out there racing, but race morning was SO cold that there would be no way I would be in the ass-tasting, freezing water!! We saw so many people coming out of T1 not even able to ride their bikes because they were shivering so badly. Seeing people suffer that much was a bit of a downer and scared me for St. George, but once we saw all of the Breakaway people go by - smiling - I felt better! Jay has to be the funniest person to watch during an Ironman. Anyone who can smile and make jokes during that kind of race is amazing.
Everyone from Breakaway raced with everything they had and didn't leave anything behind. It was so amazing watching everyone give 100%. We stayed out on the course until 11:20 cheering people in and that was the greatest thing ever. Some people were cramping up, but still attemping to run in, others waiting for their spouse to finsih - it was all so inspiring to watch!
Another thing hilarious to watch were the types of shots taken at our dinner table! I was told that I would be killed if I posted pictures or mentioned names - but you know who you are!!
Next up: Las Vegas Half Marathon!
Awesome of you to take some time and support the team. You will kick St. George in the balls, I know it.
ReplyDeleteAside: If you are just spectating, you don't need to take shots of the river water. Just smelling it or taking swimmers' words will suffice.
