This week, I went up to Oceanside to get fitted on my bike by Matt Simpson. I met him back at Vineman when he literally saved me - he fixed my computer, added a couple of water bottle cages, got me the right brake pads, and put on my race wheels...all in about an hour! Luke recommended him to me since I have been having pain in my hip, he suggested that if I am 100% dialed in on my bike, some of the pain may go away.
One reason why Matt is so amazing is because he is SO knowledgable, but he is the most down to earth guy, ever. Most places I go with my bike people act like I am satan because I don't know how to tune up my own bike. I went into Rivet Cycle Sport (his bike shop) with my bike and lots of adjustments needed. I told him that this was going to be a complicated process, but he was totally fine with everything I needed done. (I had the wheels from my Kestrel on my Look frame because I got a flat from my Look wheels and didn't have a tube with a long enough stem to switch it. To make matters even more complicated, I wanted the tires that I had on my Kestrel wheels on my Look wheels.... are you still following?) The tires that take me about 15 minutes to change were change in about 1 minute by Matt man-handling them and basically changing them with one hand!
The Cyfac system was really cool and I already feel a lot more efficient on my bike. Matt even took me out for about an hour ride afterwards to make sure that everything felt fine on the road. Everything was great on my 5ish hour ride yesterday...except for the fact my tires weren't pumped up enough..oops, I knew I'd forget something.
Anyways... I am still dealing with this annoying injury shit which is driving me crazy! I took an early recovery week with no running and just lots of swimming and eventually worked back up the cycling. I have been to the chiropractor (Katrina Stopper - she's awesome!) numerous times and she's helped a lot. My piriformus is super tight and clenching down on my sciatic nerve and my IT is also screwed up which is pulling on my knee and making it swell. It looks like a cankle, but on the kneecap. Sarah Zimmerman has been giving me some amazing massage therapy which definitely has been helping. No running for now, but I suppose allowing it to rest and recover will be better in the long run. Don't be jealous, but water aerobics is going to be on my training schedule!
Congrats to all of the Carlsbad runners! I feel like I had something else to say, but the Jersey Shore reunion show is on now and I can't write and admire Vinny at the same time!
I'm so sorry to hear you're dealing with injury BS. That sucks. Good thing is, you still have lots of time to get back at the running before St. George.
