I thought that this week I wouldn't have anything interesting to write about, but today has given me plenty "amo."
This past week has been a pretty normal training week, I am able to run now - just holding off the speed work for another 2 weeks. Interesting, right? Anyways...listing off my training to you would be boring so I will save all 8 followers of mine from having to do so. Except I will explain today, Tuesday.
Today started off at 5:50am with Michelle Schwartz's spin class at La Jolla Sports Club. She is training for Ironman France and Ironman Arizona, so her classes are really intense and definitely help us push the limit. I do this spin class with Lina, and we push each other to really kick our asses during this class. Right after the class, we headed off for a 45minute T run. The run was nice and hilly...it drifted from z2 to z3.
Right after spin + run, I headed Downtown to Aire to do a TRX class with Jenn. For some reason, I didn't think that this class would be extremely difficult, but that was one of the hardest total body class I've ever taken!!! I can not wait to do this class again. Jenn was so nice and gave us water breaks, since I was sweating like a hog within the first 10 minutes. She explained and demonstrated everything and really made all of us comfortable. I know if I continue to do the class I will get a lot stronger and it will help me in triathlon. There is an advanced class to TRX, and I can not even imagine what that is like! Jenn is so tiny, but she is SO strong! Hopefully by May I will make it to the advanced class!!
After TRX, I went home to shower and take a quick nap. I don't know why, but I didn't eat or drink anything before I went to swimming. The bar that I ate before spin was only 120 calories, so going to swimming on only 120 calories and 3 hours of exercise was NOT smart, ummm duhhhhhh. I attempted to swim in the big boy lane with Felipe and company, but within the first 200, I knew I was in deep sh*t. Have you ever had the feeling where your body feels like a noodle? That's exactly how I felt today. After 3500meters, I could go no further. After I came flopping in to the side of the pool after a set, I begged Felipe to let me leave early and luckily he said yes. I don't think in all of my years of swimming have I ever gotten out of the pool early because I just couldn't fit the set. Believe me, there have been plenty of Whitewater practices where I just swam for 2.5 hours continuously because I couldn't make the interval... but I always remained in the water. Today, I couldn't even fathom doing the last mini set of 16x50's. What a loser I am!!
So the big ass obvious lesson I learned today: EAT (healthy food) before and during exercise!!
120 calories and water might work for a mile walk, but that did not work today! Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to redeem myself in the pool.
I've had to jump out of the pool a couple times and eat a GU or bar (that I luckily brought with me, otherwise I'd be screwed) during a bonk in the pool.
ReplyDeleteNow I know if my swimming is bad then I'm probably tired from biking/running, let alone a bonk!
good story.
