Our new " When Felipe texted me "Let's talk about your training" last week, I froze. I felt like I was 8 again and my mom was catching me eat cookies in the middle of the night. Needless to say, I was dreading going to swimming that Thursday because I couldn't imagine what Lipe was going to say about my training. Was I not doing enough? Was I taking them too easy? What the HELL could he have to say?!!? The talk ended up not being so bad, he told me that I need to stop adding extra classes during the week and that the next 5 weeks were going to be hard. Um, I thought the past 25 weeks were hard...
Anyways, I realized that I need to respect whatever rest part of this training that I have and that I can't go to gravity/TRX/spin classes without telling Phil. Okay, okay - I get it. After getting my March training plan, the volume is definitely increasing and if I thought I was tired before, I am definitely going to be a zombie this month! As tired as I am, I like days that I work out 4-5 hours before class. I definitely feel accomplished.
Speaking of accomplishing things.. the ride that Kathy and I did on Friday was a huge milestone for me. This weekend was a little screwy because of the rain, so Kath and I decided to head out on Friday to conquer our 6 hour ride. We had done most of the route before, but we were adding longer hills and more of them. Our legs were tired going into the ride, having just done intervals at track the night before, but we decided just to make the best of it. After the first climb, Kathy turns around (she's always infront of me on the hills) and just says, "This is gonna suck." I'm thinking to myself, "Shit, if Kathy says this is going to suck- it WILL suck." Kathy is always optimistic, so I knew I was in for it if even she said that this would be a hard ride. At our half way mark, exactly 3 hours, we landed at some Circle K in the middle of nowhere. We were both laying in the parking lot trying to stretch out/ muster enough strength to get some food. I know this sounds dramatic, but at this point we both felt like quitting. Each hill we climbed, we were pushed back with head winds. The few times we went downhill, we were greeting by cross winds that were shaking the shit out of us on our bikes. At this point we both were feeling pretty bad for ourselves, but we were cold so we went on. Like 10 miles later I needed more water because I was chugging it on the last miles of false flats. We both were laughing because I couldn't get my speed over 11.5mph and Kathy couldn't get hers over 12mph. I think that was the point that we realized that A-no one was going to pick our sorry asses up, and B- WTF is 11.5mph!? The rest of the ride was fine and were able to get back to a normal speed. The 30 minute run after blew, but we finished!! Woohoooooo.
The rest of the weekend was awesome - just a 90 minute run in the rain on Saturday and a recovery swim with the team on Sunday. I kept on having throw up burps of Weight Watcher's bagels during the swim which was quite disturbing, but thankfully Berg was going at a human speed so it wasn't too strenuous of a workout.

a little tip i learned from coach Recca during my tumultuous tenure/glory days at WW-P HSN: don't keep bagels at the end of your lane.
ReplyDeleteDrink h20, not bagels.
human speed? i was catching flak from you for not going fast enough.
ReplyDeleteA. 11.5 mph is rather fast!
ReplyDeleteB. You were not throwing up Weight Watchers bagels, let's be honest!
C. I thought the highlight of your weekend occurred Sunday morning via picture text of me on the trainer and you in your room...a total of about 20 feet seperating us!
