Oh Hot Damn (Damn)

Tomorrow Liz, Elaine, and I leave for St. George!! After having signed up for this race more than a year ago, I can't believe it is FINALLY here. I was getting used to just telling people that I WILL (like in the future) be racing an Ironman, but the time has come!!!!!!!!! Oh hot damn! (Damn!)

I go through weird moods of being super excited and then extremely nervous and then there are times where I can't even imagine myself racing. I don't know if it has actually hit me that this Saturday is the day I've been training for for the past year. Whoa, as I'm typing this, I'm starting to get the butterflies in my stomach! Everyone seems to be nervous about the weather, ie: the rain and wind - and while that doesn't exactly get me excited, I am more nervous about how my body is going to hold up. The hip pain that I've had for almost a year now is still nagging me and I have a new lovely addition of abductor and hamstring pain. Tomorrow I am going to Dr. Kelly in Encinitas for some biopuncture. Let's hope that works!

Besides from fixating on my annoying pain, I have been enjoying taper week. There was actually time to go to breakfast with Kath and Liz after a Sunday workout and time for my pre-race mani/padi. If nothing else, my fingers and toes will look great on Saturday. Thank god I had time to wax my eyebrow because that would not have been cute to have all of my first Ironman pictures with me looking like Frida Kahlo. Anyways. I brought my bike up to Matt Simpson to do some final adjustments and to have my race wheels all set. Hopefully him and his wife (who I found out is this bad ass officer in the Marines - woo!! you go girl!) will be able to make it out to Utah after their weekend in Vegas. As always, I had excellent service and spending time with Matt is always great.

So, this is it! I would be lying if I said I wasn't scared shitless, but I am also very excited and very eager to see my Ma and Pa who are coming to support me all the way from New Jersey! I am so lucky to have parents who come watch, even if they only see me for 4 minutes during the race, hearing my mama's cowbell and their cheers will help me SO much. I am also lucky to have friends who make me awesome good luck cards. I read those cards all the time! :) One that is one my wall is from my friend Chastain (who just got married!!) and it says - "Whitney, no matter how tomorrow goes, remember why you are doing this...because you enjoy it! So go out there and have an adventure. You have worked hard and I know you will kick some ass. So just do your best!" Notes like that are an instant pick-me-up and encourage me to have fun while I am racing.
