This week I got in 2 pretty long ocean swims. The first was with Berg, Liz, Sarah, Fred, Gary, Christiane, and Richard. Swimming back to the cove, Berg and I were leading the pack. All of a sudden, the water got super warm (comparatively) and huge heaps of kelp entangled me. If you've never swam with me in open water, they you might not know how much I hate it. I was "lucky" enough to have my first even Cove swim with Berg and Nick Brown last year where they petrified me and put kelp on my head. Kelp and I don't get along. Anyways, I freaked out after I got out of the kelp heap and Berg sees me and asks, "what's wrong?" I tell him that swimming through that all that scared me and I was freaking out. "Well...stop." and then he swam off. gee, thanks, Berg! muaha.
On Sunday we swam from LJ Shores to the A Buoy and back. I couldn't see the buoy from the first place, so I just waited a while before getting in and figured I would sight off other people as I caught up to them. Well that plan backfired because I was patiently waiting to get in, Antonio yells, "WHAT! You can't even get in the water?? How this girl qualify??" I swallowed a whole bunch of water laughing at his comments, but we ended up swimming to the buoy together with Liz and Fred. Coming back was a lot faster because of the waves and luckily we didn't have to deal with much kelp.
In other news, I got a puppy!!!! He is an 8 week old male Boxer. His name is Baca Boy. Liz got him for me for a graduation present (now let's just hope that I graduate!!) He already has many nicknames like Heffer, Devil Child, Shit Slinger, and Baca. He gets along with Goofy but I think Goofy is being a bit of a hater since Baca Boy is getting so much attention. Liz and I brought both of the pups over to Michelle and Felipe's yesterday and they had a great time terrorizing their home.

Happy Mother's Day to my Mama Bird!!! I love you!

Seaweed/Kelp... whatever the stuff is called totally freaks me out while I am surfing :-) Even though you know it is harmless... it is just Gross-y!! Glad the new puppy is so much fun! Hopefully I can meet him when I return!
ReplyDeleteBaca Boy is so cute, Woo! Winslow will be glad to have a brother? grandson? nephew? Hope I get to meet him someday! Love you!

At Spring Sprint this year we crawled over kelp beds at some points and my hands were almost able to pull seaweed out of the ground with each stroke (during the 1st 200 meters). It was weird.
ReplyDeleteAwesome dog!
That pup is so damn cute! Great job with the swimming, though I'm like you, I freak at anything that grazes me while I'm swimming in the ocean. Paranoid? Yes.
