Looking back at my previous posts, the majority of them are race reports. 1 - that is boring to read all the time and 2 - I have been racing a lot. A lot, a lot. Since February with San Dieguito, my season started. Now, all the way in July, I am feeling TIRED. I have been getting lapped in swimming, which hasn't happened since I used to swim 2.5 hours straight during Mr. Shu's workouts (5th-11th grade). On the bike, where I usually feel strong on the hills my legs crap out, and I am only strong about half way through the track workouts. Not only is it annoying physically, but mentally it is a bit of a WTF. I have been getting the results that I want at races, but my performances have not been impressing me. OR other people I get.. at SDIT, many people asked why I held back or were surprised that I didn't go faster. *(side note: I like to list things, so here I go again): 1 - the people who asked me that are arseholes, 2 - it is hard to switch to speed mode after training for an IM and half IM.. AND doing a half 2 weeks before that race. Ok, enough of the rant. What I am basically getting at is that I am tired and I need a break before Kona and Clearwater training begins. Therefore, I am scratching Vineman 70.3. Yes, it sucks because I wanted to use that race (my first half) as a guide to see how far I have improved, but I have to keep my goals, Kona & Clearwater, in mind. Such is life.
Thank diggity dog the Boss Man aka Phyllis has been extremely understanding and has revised my training program so I have extra built in recovery phases now. It is perfect timing because all 4 wisdom teeth need to be removed ASAP. The infection in my mouth that I have now hurts like a mother, but with my recovery DAY, I don't have to worry about missing any workouts because I have days off, woot woot!!!!
With a more flexible schedule, I have been able to do fun things like take the train to Anaheim and ride back. 6 of us went this past weekend and it was hilarious. Trying to figure out the directions was a nightmare - I mean, FUN. Well, we got lost a couple of times, but nothing too horrible. I swear, we NEVER passed Green Lantern Road! It is definitely a ride that I would do again, but maybe ride up to Anaheim so we won't face 83 miles of headwind again!
The best part of this recovery is that I get to go home!!! Can't wait to see Ma and Da!
I think using your plane ticket to KONA (and Clearwater) as a proxy for how far you've improved is a great substitute for racing at Vineman.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy N.E.W. Jerz, for serious.
Good call on taking some time for recovery (and for those wisdom teeth, don't want that to get out of control!). You're a smart girl and you'll definitely be fresh to boot for Clearwater and Kona!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited for running & meeting when you're in the dirty!
CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI think this is PERFECT, Whit. You need a rest both physically and mentally. After Barb's race, you need to join us for a girl's night out.
ReplyDeleteI think you are making a fantastic decision!!
i was going to ask how you keep doing it? racing and training?! it seemed as if you never took a break, and i started to doubt myself, and my rather large break after st george. i'm glad to hear you are human. :) but in all seriousness, i'm glad you are getting rest. it's super easy to get burned out. best of luck with the teeth...when i got mine out, they dropped one down my throat...luckily i swallowed it rather than inhaling it into my lungs. hehe.
ReplyDeletebest of luck with your goals. you are on your way!
